A classic cocktail created in Cairo, combining cognac or brandy, gin, fresh lime juice and Angostura bitters, topped with ginger beer. Refreshing, aromatic and pleasantly spicy.
The Suffering Bastard was created in Cairo, Egypt, by bartender Joe Scialom during World War II. It became associated with British troops in North Africa and was designed as a refreshing long drink combining brandy, gin, citrus and ginger beer. The cocktail is included in the official IBA cocktail list.
