Historical Background

The Caesar was created in 1969 by bartender Walter Chell at the Calgary Inn in Calgary, Alberta. Inspired by the flavors of Italian spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams), he combined vodka with Clamato juice, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce. The cocktail became Canada's signature drink, with millions served annually across the country.
